Our Story

Born before Independence.
Built for the century ahead.

The National Institute of Engineering (NIE) was established in 1946 by a “three-man army” of retired engineers — even before India gained independence.

Eighty years later, NIE is an autonomous institution under VTU, approved by UGC and AICTE, and accredited by NAAC with the highest grade. Alumni include N. R. Narayana Murthy (Co-Founder, Infosys), chairmen, CEOs, and board directors of global companies worldwide.
